Algerian Ivy Algerian Ivy (Hedera algeriensis) is very similar to english ivy. This broad-leafed ivy plant typically has dark green leaves (for regular Algerian ivy), although you can also find variegated varieties with light edges.

The plant is native to Northern Africa and Algeria. Birds are attracted to it as a shelter plant, but rabbits and deer avoid it. Note that when variegated varieties algerian ivy are planted in deep shade, they may revert to solid green coloring. If this happens, move your Algerian ivy to a sunnier locale.

Hedera Variegated Algerian has height at maturity: 6-8" (15-20 sm) when used as a groundcover. Algerian Ivy is a trailing plant that is ideal for use as a groundcover in landscape borders and on embankments and slopes for erosion control. Also nice spilling over walls. It is also great for outdoor container gardens and hanging baskets or as an indoor houseplant.

Highly ornamental, variegated Algerian Ivy is a slow to moderate growing large-leafed evergreen vine that trails, climbs, and cascades. The vines root as they trail along the ground making it an excellent choice for erosion control on embankments and slopes. Ivy clings to wood, brick and other surfaces which makes it an excellent choice for creating a "live wall".

Ivy plants can be invasive so make sure to control their spread when growing near woodland areas. Keep a watchful eye on children and pets because algerian ivy can be toxic to humans and animals.
