Asian Jasmine (Trachelospermum asiaticum) grown for its fragrant flowers and attractive, glossy, dark green foliage. If growing vertical, a vigorous climbing stems are covered with clusters of very fragrant, creamy white blooms that mature to yellow. May not bloom when used as a groundcover and in a hot climate, there may be few flowers.
In fact, Asian Jasmine has nothing to do with jasmine family species, but gives white or yellow fragrant flowers in the shape of a star, similar to jasmine.
Commonly used to climb fences or walls, posts, latticework and trellises. Asiatic jasmine is a reliable evergreen groundcover for any location especially where turfgrass won’t grow, as Asiatic jasmine will tolerate many growing conditions and suppresses weed growth.
Tough and great-looking when well cared for, this jasmine rarely flowers but forms a blanket of foliage to set off large plants. Asian Jasmine combines with roses, creeping Junipers, coreopsis as a spiller plant in container gardens and hanging baskets. Also it looks great in containers, or when it hangs from the edges of the balconies and the railing.
Asian Jasmine is a ideal for use as a groundcover and soil stabilizer for erosion control on sunny or shady embankments, hillsides and slopes. It thrives in shade, si it is perfect for use under the canopies of large shade trees, decks or other overhead structures. Established plants are very drought tolerant.
Unless you don't like frequent pruning to keep the plant in bounds, avoid planting in large spaces where the plant cannot be confined.
