Bright Star Yucca Bright Star Yucca or Yucca gloriosa, also known as "Spanish Dagger" is a species of evergreen flowering shrub, native to the southeastern United States. Evergreen, infrequent blooms in summer, has forms rosettes 30 - 60 cm (1 to 2 ft) tall, up to 2.5 m (5 ft) when blloms.

It is widely cultivated as an ornamental in landscaping for its architectural qualities, and has reportedly become established in warmer climates in the wild in various parts of the world.

Bright Star Yucca differs from other types of yucca only with the color of the leaves. Boldly colored rosettes of strappy green leaves with bright yellow edges are sure to add drama to the landscape. Leaves curve gracefully downward, each ending with a sharp tip. Develops a short, trunk-like base over time, with a tree-like appearance. Deep pink buds on tall flower stalks open to fragrant, white, bell-shaped flowers.

Thrives in average to lean, fast-draining soils. Water deeply and regularly during the first few growing seasons to establish an extensive root system. Bright Star yucca can be grown on any well drained soil, fertilizer sparingly in early spring.

Once established, yucca gloriosa requires low water and little care - just remove spent bloom spikes.

Bright Star Yucca (Spanish Dagger) is a fine addition to Asian/Japanese gardens, perennial gardens, rock gardens, tropical look gardens, and low water needs Xeriscape gardens.
