Color Guard Yucca also known as Yucca filamentosa or Adam’s needle and thread, is a species of flowering plant native to the southeastern United States. Growing to 3 metres (10 feet) tall, it is an evergreen shrub valued in horticulture.
Yucca filamentosa Color Guard bears bright creamy-yellow leaves with green edges. During the cooler months of fall and winter, the light leaf centers take on rose overtones (pink & salmon tones).
Evergreen Color Guard Yucca can be grown on any well drained soil. Tough as nails, yuccas are the ideal plant for a no-maintenance garden. Their sword-like foliage radiates upward from a central crown, remaining upright all year round except in the heaviest snows. It combines nicely with all kinds of mounded foliage plants. You can combine Yucca with other low water need plants such as junipers, barberry, abelia, ornamental grasses, and loropetalum.
Color Guard Yucca is ideal for use as a specimen in small spaces or in groupings or mass plantings in sunny to partly shaded larger landscape borders and home foundation plantings.
Slightly arching, sword-shaped, striped foliage of creamy-white against dark green provides great architectural interest. Showy spires of fragrant snow white blooms in summer. Ideal as an accent or container specimen, or used in mass plantings. Tolerant of wind, heat, humidity, and drought. Evergreen.
From early to midsummer, spectacular sturdy flower stalks rise 3-4 feet tall from the center of the plant. The individual bell-shaped, creamy white flowers are 2-3 inches long and dangle from the stems like earrings.
A fine addition to Asian/Japanese gardens, yellow theme gardens, perennial gardens, rock gardens, tropical look gardens, and Xeriscape gardens (low water needs).
