Dwarf Mondo Grass Dwarf Mondo Grass also known as Ophiopogon japonicus (dwarf lilyturf, mondograss, fountainplant, monkeygrass) is a species native to China, India, Japan, and Vietnam.

This tough little grassy plant is used in landscape desing as a low-maintenance evergreen carpet of deep green is what you need for a lawn, as a groundcover or to fill the gaps between stepping stones and pavers, Dwarf Mondo grass is an evergreen groundcover that looks like turf, very deep green turf with narrow, linear, grass-like, dark green leaves growing only 2 inches tall and spreading slowly over a period of 3 years to a foot or more.

Tiny, spherical white flowers are nestled in the foliage but for the most part are inconspicuous on this dwarf.

Dwarf Mondo Grass Ophiopogon japonicus 'Nana' is an evergreen, sod-forming perennial plant with the linear leaves, 20–40 cm long. In summer, it produces short spikes of white or lilac flowers, followed by bright blue berries in fall.

Adopted to USDA gardening zones 6a-11, Dwarf mondograss is the perfect choice to fill the gaps between stepping stones and pavers. It holds up very good to foot traffic and will not spread across the surface of the stones or pavers as many other spreading groundcover plants will do. It is also great for use as an underplanting for shrubs or trees, such as Japanese Maples. Also useful as a soil cover in containers, where it serves as a cute little patch of "turf."

Dwarf Mondo grass is very easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and part shade to full shade. Morning sun is okay but foliage may fade to a lighter shade of green in direct afternoon sun. temporary flooding is okay but constantly soggy or wet soils can be problematic.
