Pink Champagne Clematis Pink Champagne Clematis (clematis Kakio) is a one genus of about 380 species within buttercup family, with a flower color from rose pink to rose purple shades with gray lavender center bar. Native area of this clematis is Japan.

Pink Shampan Clematis (Kakio) is ideal for small gardens and large containers. But, despite compactness, it opens a large flowers and in the early stages. This hybrid is an amazing tandem with changeable weather - his beauty is completely dependent on her whims.

Flowers in some latitudes can bloom pink, in others - red and in third place, and it is likely that the color of the second wave will change in all three places. Even inside one region from year to year, flowers of the same bush change color depending on weather conditions: the intensity of precipitation, the amount of solar heat and light.

When the new hybrid spread to Western Europe, the second name was fixed behind it - Pink Champagne, since in those climatic conditions its flowers had pink.

But the creator of Kakio disputing this name as wrong one - after all, in Kakio's homeland in Japan, red flowers bloom, not pink.

Clematis Kakio Pink Champagne requires fertile soil, and in case of heavy clay it shoul be amended to ensure good drainage.

As all clematisses Kakio Pink Champagne attracts butterflies, hummingbirds and beneficial pollinators.

One of the earliest of the large-flowered Clematis to bloom, 'Pink Champagne' features very large flowers with two-toned bubbly bright pink petals adorned with a luminous gray-lavender center bar that surround a tuft of yellow anthers. Flowering occurs in two cycles, the first beginning in spring to early summer and then again from mid summer to early fall.

Climbing 6 to 8 feet high and spreading 3 to 4 feet in width, the Pink Champagne Clematis is ideal for growing on fences, trellises, arches, mailbox or lamp posts, obelisks, poles and other structures. Excellent for pots, planters and other containers for situating on patios, decks and around other outdoor living spaces where the amazing flowers can be viewed from close up.

Kakio clematis belongs to oruning group: 2 (in plants aged 1 year, all shoots are pruned at a height of about 30 cm; in plants over two years, all shoots are cut off at an altitude of 150 cm).

Pruning of clematisses consists of removing weak and crossing shoots then thinning down the plant to a structure of evenly spaced one and two year old stems. Alternatively, you can often force a flush of new growth from the base by cutting the vine back to 18 inches immediately after the flush of bloom.

An alternate method of pruning is to prune only every three or four years. In this case, clematis will produce a weak first flush of flowers in the summer after pruning.
